The Nocellara is a variety of olive tree with the unique peculiarity in the world of growing and producing a good fruit (the drupe) only in the territory of the Valle del Belice (province of Trapani in the municipalities of Salaparuta, Poggioreale, and Partanna). This peculiarity, together with its characteristics, distinguishes it as one of the most appreciated cultivars in the world; in fact, it has received both the recognition of P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) and P.G.I. (Protected Geographical Indication).
The Nocellara del Belice is a dual-purpose olive tree, meaning it is capable of producing both table olives and extra virgin olive oil,
It is a cultivar with a dual purpose, both for table olives and for extra virgin olive oil, and has a very good productivity level, not subject to alternation, with a medium-high oil yield and very low acidity. The Nocellara tree has medium vigor, an expansive habit, and a moderately expansive crown, and produces an oil with an interesting aroma and a particularly intense and full-bodied taste, fruity with hints of green tomato, almond, and artichoke.
It also produces a particular table olive, the Nocellara del Belice Olive PDO.
